The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine offers 2 one-year fellowships in gastrointestinal/liver pathology. During the course of the academic year, the importance of clinicopathological interaction for optimal diagnostic interpretation is stressed. Fellows are encouraged to engage in research projects. The program historically has had a well defined core of responsibilities outlined for the fellow and has also allowed considerable flexibility for the fellow to develop clinical and academic skills important for career development. The core responsibilities include preparing cases of GI, liver and pancreatic diseases for a core of surgical pathology faculty with subspecialty expertise.
